I was organizing our photo collection on the new computer this morning and I came across this photo of a Tibetan woman. While stopping for lunch in a village in western Tibet, whose name escapes me, this woman ventured closer to our group. As we sat on some crude outside tables and consumed Tsampa and steamed momos, this woman sat, uttering prayers with the hopes of a small handout.
This particular photo has always struck me. She is as poor as anyone on Earth but there is a warmth to her. I’ve never really been able to put my finger on it.
This made my day. Â After a long day of shopping (we are done, finally), coming home to notice this on the news reader is a good laugh to end the day.
“The sheriff’s office in Chicago has arrested more than 60 fugitives with a net of holiday cheer. Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart said Sunday that the suspects were invited to take a retailers’ survey for holiday shoppers at a hotel earlier this month.”
The end of last year I did a project for the Eugene Field House and St. Louis Toy Museum.  The museum is the boyhood home of the poet, Eugene Field, as well as the home of his father Roswell.  Roswell holds the distinction of representing Dred Scott before the Supreme Court in the pivotal 19th century case.  The museum rolled out an extensive exhibit to memorialize this event in American history as asked me to pull together a video.
While burning some additional DVD copies this evening I decided to upload and share online. Â Enjoy.
Perhaps McDonald’s will save the economy… I am certainly doing my part, but know I should lay off the Big Macs more than I do.
“Consumers hungry for a deal boosted worldwide sales at McDonald’s Corp.’s established locations by 7.7 percent in November, the fast-food leader said Monday. Even recession-wary consumers in the U.S. were enticed by the Golden Arches during the month. U.S. same-store sales — or sales at locations open at least a year — rose 4.5 percent.”
This past week was very busy and, as a result, I am only now getting around to posting some video. We drove to Ohio to spend the long weekend with Rhonda’s brother and sister-in-law, as we do every year. David Matthew had a wonderful time and got a chance to visit with a new baby (4 months), and her young cousin, Emma (2 years old).
Emma is very cute for her age and I especially liked this clip of her singing to the camera.
The holidays has started out well. Not only did our customary trip to Ohio to visit Rhonda’s brother and sister-in-law go very well over Thanksgiving, the gift giving has begun. The FedEx dude delivered a fantastic gift from my mother, one of the best I have ever received.
The new HP Mini 1000 netbook is fantastic, pure and simple. Very small, lightweight (2 lbs) and a full featured Windows PC, this is a fantastic little notebook computer with a beautiful, bright display. Even with my over-sized hands I am able to make use of it very easily as the keyboard is almost the size of a standard notebook. I spent the lion’s share of last night and this morning loading software and getting it just so, but Christmas has started out with a bang, without question.
